Hecate is the greek goddess of magic, witchcraft, and sorcery. In addition, she possesses a vast knowledge of healing herbs and poisonous plants, as well as ghosts and necromancy. She is often called the goddess of crossroads and therefore depicted throughout history in triple form, facing all directions yet to be traveled. Her name is derived from the greek word ‘hekatos’ and means ‘worker from afar,’ which alludes to her divine magical abilities. She is depicted holding pomegranates in reference to her assistance of Demeter in the search for Persephone in the underworld. Her two torches allude to this descent, and are also symbolic of Hecate’s illuminated guardianship over entrance-ways.
Hecate is original artwork drawn and printed by hand by artist Adrienne Rozzi. Screenprinted with black archival ink on kraft archival Stonehenge paper. Signed by the artist.
